Log cabin in Sussex. Sleeps 4 people
Orinoco is 6.4 x 3.6m in size, and situated on the edge of the woodland, with far reaching views of open pasture and forest beyond. Orinoco takes its name from the great river that meanders across Venezuela and Columbia. Although the inspiration for the style was taken from the typical Australian ‘Tinny’, with its corrugated tin roof and large open verandah. You wont be watching kangaroos from the deck but you could quite possibly see a wallaby as there have been many sightings on the Ashdown Forest. The furniture is ‘old farmhouse’ style with many antiques and beautiful ethnic textile wall hangings. There are old woodsman’s tools that have been collected by Charles & Lisa that help give the cabin a homely, and lived in feel.
There is a mezzanine level reached via a sturdy ladder where there is comfortable double bed which sleeps 2 people (n.b. max headroom 1250mm). Downstairs is an open plan living area with a comfortable double sofa bed that can sleep an additional 2 people (bed linen charges apply – see extras). The sofa is in front of the toasty woodburner and there is an eclectic Indian wedding chair and hand made wooden fireside stool. The cabin is highly insulated and has double glazing. The room also incorporates a kitchen/dining area with twin gas burner. The cupboards and large old pine dresser contain all the necessary pots, pans, cutlery and crockery that you should need.
Outside the veranda which offers a covered deck space with a large picnic table for outdoor eating. A large open outdoor fire-pit and BBQ are beside the cabin and surrounded by large logs for cooking marshmallows under the stars. Kiln dried wood for the woodburner and charcoal for the BBQ can be purchased from the Forest Garden shop.
The coppiced hazel understory beneath the tall oak and ash trees create a secluded corner of the ancient woodland which is teeming in wildlife and covered in woodland wildflowers.
Orinoco It is located about 60 metres from the shower/WC/washing up area.
As part of your stay you will be given a free introduction to Shinrin-Yoku – which literally means ‘Forest Bathing’. There are also many other courses that you can enroll on. Please visit our ‘Courses’ page for more information.
